Nepal Rural Health and Education Project

Our Projects In Nepal

Nepal has been badly affected by the two major earthquakes and hundreds of aftershocks. Based on the needs assessment and planning, during which the second major earthquake struck, we are now providing relief directly in most affected areas. NRHEP is currently working with a field team of several Nepali medics and health professionals providing assistance to Dolakha, Kavre, Sindhupalchok, Ramechapp and Solukhumbu districts, three of the hardest hit rural areas northeast of Nepal. They will provide medicine, basic medical care, food, and water purification tools immediately to people with the greatest need, prioritizing malnourished and sick and injured children. We are partnering with nurses and medical personnel in hospitals in Kathmandu to provide additional medicine and medical expertise.
The team plans to do ongoing needs assessment to determine what relief is most needed so our limited donations can be used most effectively. They will also provide public health education related to water borne illnesses, and teach important habits and information that can be used to avert major epidemics after the earthquake and during the fast approaching monsoon season. Traditional venues such as weekly farmer’s markets based in the main villages of these districts will be utilized to distribute information and provide assistance.
